How to Isolate Guitar Tracks from a Song
Whether you are trying to learn a complex guitar solo note-for-note or need to remove the guitar track to create a backing track for your own rehearsals, AI stem separation makes it possible in seconds right inside your browser.
Why traditional EQ filters fail to isolate guitars
Before deep learning, musicians used bandpass or EQ filters to isolate guitars. Since guitars occupy the midrange (roughly 80 Hz to 5 kHz), filtering this range inevitably isolates everything else in the midrange too: lead vocals, snare drum crack, piano, and synths. It resulted in a muddy, indistinct mess.
Modern AI separation solves this by looking at spectral shapes over time. The machine learning model knows what a guitar transient, strum, and distortion pattern look like, allowing it to surgically extract the guitar tracks while keeping the drums, bass, and vocals completely untouched.
Step-by-step: isolating guitars with JamScore AI
-
Upload your track
Drag and drop any audio file (MP3, WAV, or M4A) into the JamScore AI interface. For best results, use the highest quality source file available. Lossless WAV files provide the AI model with the most audio details, resulting in fewer artifacts.
-
Select the Guitar Separator Tool
Select the dedicated Guitar Separator tool or choose the full 6-stem separator. The model processes the audio locally in your browser using WebAssembly. This means your files are never uploaded to a cloud server, ensuring absolute privacy and instant results.
-
Use Solo to listen, or Mute to jam
Once processed, the mixer controls will appear. Click the Solo button on the Guitar channel to hear the isolated guitar tracks on their own, perfect for figuring out fast solos or complex chord voicings. Click Mute on the Guitar channel to remove it entirely, giving you a custom backing track to practice over.
-
Export your stems
Click the download icon on the guitar channel to save the guitar track as a lossless WAV file. You can also download the custom backing track with the guitar removed.
How to use isolated guitar tracks to improve your playing
- Slow down complex solos: Once isolated, import the track into the JamScore editor to slow down the speed without changing the pitch, making fast sweep-picking or legato sections easy to dissect.
- Create your own backing tracks: Mute the guitar, plug your instrument into your audio interface, and jam along with the original band. It is the closest thing to playing with the real master multitracks.
- Analyze tone and dynamics: Hearing a guitar track in isolation reveals the exact amount of delay, reverb, and gain the original guitarist used, helping you replicate the tone on your own amplifier.

Open JamScore AIFrequently asked questions
Can I separate acoustic and electric guitars from the same song?
The AI model groups all guitars into a single 'guitar' stem. It does not separate acoustic guitar from electric guitar if both are playing simultaneously, though it isolates them together from other instruments like drums or bass.
Will the isolated guitar track sound clean?
High-quality source files (320kbps MP3 or lossless WAV) yield clean separations. Heavily distorted guitars or tracks with matching frequencies (like keyboards in the midrange) might have minor signal bleed, but the isolated track is highly usable for transcription and learning.
Does this support bass guitar isolation?
Yes, our full Stem Splitter tool isolates bass guitar into its own independent channel, separate from the lead/rhythm guitars.
